Who is your hero?
I don’t have one person I would call a hero, there are many people who do great things in this world.
If you could live anywhere, where would it be?
In a quiet beachside town with my family.
What was your first job?
Stenographer at the New Zealand Government Tourist Bureau.
If money was no object, what would you do all day?
I would love to see many parts of the world, flying and by train. I would also love to go to all the major tennis grand slams and other sporting events.
What is your favourite book or movie?
I like a variety of movies from different genres, from feel-good movies such as You’ve Got Mail and Just Like Heaven to action/science fiction movies such as The Day After Tomorrow and Star Trek.
If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
A good chicken parma. Whenever we go out for dinner, I look at the menu but I always end up ordering a chicken parma with chips and salad.
Aside from necessities, what one thing could you not go a day without?
My family. Family is the most important thing to me.
Do you love or hate rollercoasters?
I don’t hate them but I do not love them.
What three items would you take with you on a deserted island?
A solar powered coffee machine, coffee, and a cow for my own supply of milk.
What was your favourite subject in school?
My favourite subject in school was Japanese, I would have loved to continue learning it.
Do you collect anything?
I love collecting tea pots, cups, and saucers from antique shops, especially pieces from the old, original, English Royal Albert collection.
Who was your favourite teacher? Why?
I didn’t have one particular favourite teacher.
Why did you get involved in the production of “Flourishing”?
I started in choir, and I have loved learning to sing, and I thought it would be a really fun and exciting adventure to do with my daughter Jessie.
Who is your favourite character in the show and why?
Kendall, because she is an amazing and strong lady who I really admire.
Florence Nightingale was known as the lady with the lamp because she spent time with her patients and really stepped into their darkness and cared for them. Who is a person who is not a family member who stepped into your life and helped you flourish?
It would have to be my dear friend Melody, who took me in, always looked out for me and gave me a lot of guidance in life. She was like me a mother to me.
Vincent van Gogh dreamed of people being deeply moved by his art.
If you had all the talent in the world, what kind of art would you want to be creating?
I have always loved baking and cake decorating. If I had the opportunity, I would have loved to have my own shop. I have made cakes for friends in the past and I love seeing how happy a beautiful cake can make people feel.
Helen Keller once said: “I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something; and because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do something that I can do.”
What is your “one thing” you can offer to help a person in a tough place flourish?
I would always be there as a friend for someone to talk to and a shoulder for them to lean on. If there was anything I could do to help them in their journey, I would do it.
What messages, thoughts, and/or feelings would you like the audience to leave with after watching “Flourishing”?
I think people need to be aware that everyone faces difficulties and struggles in their lives, and it is very important for people to have access to therapy and support to help them through the tough times.
