Music.
Why did you get involved in the production of “Flourishing”?
I was a part of a local choir with my mum, and it started from there.
Who is your favourite character in the show and why?
I have two favourites. One because I know the person. My mum is playing a nurse! So, I’m happy about that. I like the character Vincent Van Gogh played by Helen Walker.
Florence Nightingale was known as the lady with the lamp because she spent time with her patients and really stepped into their darkness and cared for them. Who is a person who is not a family member who stepped into your life and helped you flourish?
Strangely enough, it’s been the people that have let me down, not family, that have ‘helped me flourish’. They have inadvertently shown me what my good traits are.
Vincent van Gogh dreamed of people being deeply moved by his art.
If you had all the talent in the world, what kind of art would you want to be creating?
Film and/or still photography and music. Though, as I get older, the more I feel I need these things just for myself to feel human! Though you can’t beat the feeling of a collaboration.
Helen Keller once said: “I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something; and because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do something that I can do.”
What is your “one thing” you can offer to help a person in a tough place flourish?
If someone is willing and open to listening, they will realise I have been ‘there’ I have been low, and I know and understand that position. So I would say, I can actually LISTEN, with care and understanding.
What messages, thoughts, and/or feelings would you like the audience to leave with after watching “Flourishing”?
That happiness is always possible if you’re willing to put in the work and be okay with falling and failing from time to time. These things are necessary to grow.
